Writing is the foundation of Bonnie McCune's "real" jobs, which have built upon this skill to encompass general marketing and public relations staff positions for nonprofit and government agencies. She's applied her abilities to corporate and institutional communications, publications, public opinion campaigns, development of private-public partnerships, fund-raising, events, and training. At one point she hosted a local cable television show. Among her positions have been stints with the Denver Department of Public Works, the Auraria Higher Education Center, the Denver Public Library, the Rocky Mountain Women's Institute and the Colorado State Library. In addition, she pursues free-lance writing and consulting as time permits, with publications in local, regional and trade publications including Colorado Parent, Westword, Grit, EnCompass, American Libraries, and numerous others. Having learned about volunteering as both a volunteer and as staff, she co-authored Recruiting and Managing Volunteers in Libraries (Neal Schuman Publishers, New York, 1995).

Her private passion is fiction writing, and she has published several short stories as well as receiving awards in competitions which no one except equally obsessed fiction writers know about. She currently is at work on her fourth unpublished novel and owes her continuing determination to crack the market to members of various critique groups who insisted on encouraging her.

She is a member of Library People: Friends of Colorado Libraries, Friends of Food for Thought (a children's literacy project), the Denver Art Museum, the Alliance Française, Congress Park Neighborhood Association, the National Center for Community Relations, and other groups. Her friends say that her enthusiasm for two beautiful and bright grandchildren outpaces any other interests.
