Dr. Beverly Chico is a scholar/humanist, Professor of History for over 30 years, having taught in Maryland and Colorado universities/colleges and served as President of the Denver Woman’s Press Club (1992-l993). She is a nationally-recognized expert on Headwear and History, having worked as a museum curator who has published numerous academic and popular newspaper, articles and reviews.
As a collector of international headwear (600+ items from over 100 countries/cultures), Beverly has mounted 35 exhibitions/displays and produced a video. She has been a Visiting Professional at the Smithsonian Institution, a Consultant to the Canadian Museum of Civilization in Ottawa, a participant at the Folger Institute in Washington, D.C., interviewed on the British Broadcasting System program ”Outlook,” and also is listed in WHO’S WHO IN AMERICAN WOMEN (1977, 1981).
Her lectures are presented to community clubs, religious organizations, art and history museum audiences, college and university classes, as well as genealogical/library societies and Elderhostel. Early in her career, Chico worked for the International News Service Bureau at the United Nations in New York.
Over the past twenty years, she has presented research papers on Headwear and History at annual symposia of the Costume Society of America, an international organization for which she has served on the National Board of Directors, the Executive Committee and Scholars Roundtable.
Her most recent articles are: ”Mexican Headwear,” ”Central American Headwear,” ”South American Headwear,” ”Caribbean Headwear,” (Volume 2) and ”The Turban and Male Headgear in Central and Southwest Asia,” (Volume 5) ENCYCLOPEDIA OF WORLD DRESS AND FASHION (EWDF), Oxford University Press, 2010.
