Author, historical biographies, administrator for Women Writing the West
Joyce B. Lohse combines her journalism background with Western history and genealogy to write biographies. Currently, she writes books for a YA-friendly series, Now You Know Bios from Filter Press in Palmer Lake. She also writes freelance articles for magazines such as True West, Steamboat magazine, and Women Out West.
Published books include: First Governor, First Lady: John & Eliza Routt of Colorado, Justina Ford: Medical Pioneer, Emily Griffith: Opportunity’s Teacher, Unsinkable: The Molly Brown Story, A Yellowstone Savage: Life In Nature’s Wonderland, and General William Palmer: Railroad Pioneer.
In 2008, Joyce Lohse accepted induction in the Colorado Women’s Hall of Fame for her historical biography character, Eliza Routt, the original first lady of Colorado, who was also the first woman registered to vote in Colorado.
Joyce has lived in Colorado since 1974. She is available for presentations about her subjects to interested groups in the Denver area when she is not writing, researching, and lurking in cemeteries in search of great stories about pioneers.
